Do strength training really stuns your height?

Weightlifting is a common and popular part of a workout regime aimed to work on building muscles and significantly bring changes to your body. It helps you to get stronger muscles and bones and helps you to reveal an amazing body. Though cardio workouts also form a major part of a fitness regime, weight training has been a key part of many people who are on a fitness goal.

However, one question which most people opting for weight training comes across is - "Does strength training reduce or stunt height and stop growth?"

Does weightlifting really impact height and growth in an individual? What is this concern all about?

The finding of a lot of studies says 'no', that there is actually no negative impact of weightlifting related to the height and growth factors.

The truth of the matter concerning this debate is, in fact, the vice versa. Weightlifting has been related to the production of testosterone in the body which actually helps the muscles to grow. Weightlifting by teenagers can actually lead to an accelerated or improved height, contradicting the myth that it stunts your height.

So the main matter of concern is the correct posture and form should be maintained to avoid the injuries .This should not only be seen in weight training but also in case of other sports.

As in early age our growth plate(cartelagenous areas in the ends of long bones) of each bone is active means it is developing and therefore more subjected to damage.

This does not mean a teenager or an adolescent should avoid gym exercises or weight lifting simply because the growth plates are susceptible to damage. There is no scientific research or evidence supporting said myth whatsoever. The shared thought among medical professionals is that gym exercises are safe for kids under 18 as long as they are properly applied. A properly designed and supervised training program engenders various benefits, namely:

*Decreasing rates of sports-related injury and fracture risk

*Increasing strength and bone strength index

*Growing interests in fitness and self-esteem.
